While the mouse incident added a touch of whimsy to the match, the two Western Conference heavyweights battled it out in a tight and tense game. Vancouver Whitecaps, the first-placed team in the conference, took the lead early in the 13th minute through Brian White and then doubled it just before halftime. Austin FC, the fourth-placed team in the conference, tried their best to get back but struggled to level things before the break. The match ended in a 5-1 rout by the home side, thanks to an impressive four-goal showing by the USMNT's Brian White.
