Florian Wirtz has been named the Bundesliga Player of the Year by his fellow footballers in Germany ahead of Harry Kane and Michael Olise.

Wirtz finished top of the pile when it came to voting for the Player of the Year by the German professional footballers' union. The Bayer Leverkusen star scooped top spot with 29.1% of the vote, ahead of Bayern Munich duo Kane (on 20%) and Olise (with 17%).

Wirtz stood out during a season where Leverkusen lost their Bundesliga crown to Bayern. The Germany international could now be heading away from the German top flight, with a move to Liverpool in a blockbuster transfer believed to be close. Kane may have missed out this time, but he still scooped the first major trophy of his career by winning the Bundesliga.

Wirtz scored 10 goals and bagged 12 assists for Leverkusen this season in 31 Bundesliga appearances and also scored six goals in nine Champions League outings.
