After a heartbreaking loss in the Champions League final against Arsenal last season, Barcelona have made it their mission to regain the European crown as they kicked off the new campaign with a thumping 7-1 win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday. Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati contributed with an assist while Alexia Putellas scored the opening goal of the match.

Putellas opened the scoring for the Catalan giants in the fourth minute before Ewa Pajor doubled the lead by scoring the first of her two goals in the game. Esmee Brugts then took the hosts' tally to three before Bayern struck back courtesy of Klara Buhl's goal. Salma Paralluelo then made it 4-1 at the stroke of half-time. Pajor secured her second of the evening at the start of the second half, while Claudia Pina completed the rout with two late strikes.

Bonmati, who is fresh from winning the Ballon d'Or for the third consecutive year, contributed with an assist in the victory, while fellow midfielder Putellas scored the opening goal and came up with two assists of her own. Both are likely to be in contention for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
